Uninstall/Reinstall

Hello, I have been using Nagios Core for some time and absolutely love it. My organization is going to buy XI and to prepare for that I installed XI on another CentOS 5 server and did an import of our original settings. All looked very good, but I guess I experimented a little too hard and as a result began to get configuration errors. This put me on a slippery slope to the point I felt it would be a good idea to start anew. I could not find an uninstall procedure so I thought perhaps I could just run the install scripts again. After some experimentation I deleted the MySQL database and the PostgreSQL database, and the directories in /usr/local, then ran the install scripts. This resulted in database issues and other errors, which I worked through but now the second time around I'm having (not surprisingly) a number of errors and problems, e.g. service problems are being reported but I'm unable to delete the service via the gui. I would like to re-start fresh with the installation to get back to where I was at the beginning instead of working through each of these issues so that I can bring down my Core server and use it for something else, buy XI, make it all pretty and live happily ever after. Do you have a procedure for this, or do I have to rebuild my server?

Our product makes some assumptions about it's environment. The most problematic being that it's expected to be the only function of the OS it's installed on. As such there is no un-install procedure, you are just supposed to delete your xen/VM instance and start fresh.

I'll ask about adding some form of a suggestion to run in a "disposable" environment to the base requirements.

Problem with Nagios Installation

Hi, currently we are working with nagiosxi 2009R1.1H, the problem is that a previous installation was working fine, but at some point, we don't know how it stop synchronizing the hosts and services from the core config manager with the ones shown on the host and services details.

I erased the services and hosts, but it still was monitoring them. So we tried to reinstall the nagios on the Redhat server by dropping databases (both mysql and postgress), erasing mysql, apache and postgress with yum erase, and did an rm -f -R on /usr/local/nagios and /usr/local/nagiosxi, also deleted the entries on /etc/init.d/ for nagios, ndo2db and npcd.

We succesfully reinstalled all the packages, but now it seams that the nagiosxi gui is not able to communicate with the nagios core. any change on the core config manager shows as follws:

Command submitted for processing...
Waiting for configuration verification.............................................................................................................................

But at the end there is no response. If I enter the host and submit an immidiate check, the response is that the command was not processed in a timely manner as the server maybe busy.

If on system status, I try to shutdown any component it never does, but if I enter the link http://localhost/nagios (nagios core original link), it does allow me to restart, and shutdown the components and restart the service.

Also, we checked the logs from nagios and apache, and there are no errors.

Any ideas ?????

I understand, but in my case using the virtual machine is not an option due to company policies, and the server cannot be formated and reinstalled again because it has another software installed.

Do you have any ideas as to way the front end is not communicating with the back end ???

Sorry, we do recommend that NagiosXI be installed in a disposable environment.

Thanks for the reply mmestnik,i really appreciate your help..... i am working in a physical environment where Nagios XI is installed ona RHEL 5 server , so my question remains unanswered ,thanks for merging the post anyway it has given me a little insight but not much, it has pointed out what i intended to do just like macexplorer (the other Nagios user on this forum) did but i dont want to run into the same errors as he/she did , are there any other suggestions please?
