I'm using check_nrpe on Ubuntu Server and Nclient++ on a server 2008 box. I'm looking to get warnings via Nagios when certain system event logs occur. Searching around hasn't yielded much info. Can anyone help a noob out?

Sure! You should be able to use the built in CheckEventLog module in NSclient++, here are some examples of how to do this:
