Nagios Support Forum

Hi folks,

We did a proof of concept for using nagios as a monitoring tool for our setup. POC went well. We have a distributed setup having #3 physical locations and about #10 different network segments across these locations. In order to monitor the systems and databases across this network we will have to adopt a distributed monitoring architecture.

Initially, we looked at having one-nagios server in each n/w segment that send back data to a central node for display purposes. We feel that maintaing configuration for this setup is likely to be cumbersome as we will need to maintain config at both ends.

Any suggestions on what is likely to work well, in a distributed setup.

Nagios XI also has some nice features to try and ease the burden of double maintenance with distributed monitoring.

Some of the options depend on the overall scale of the operation. Nagios Fusion might also be a good option if you have several servers, as a way to easily view and configure any of them. The unified login would come in handy at the admin level.
