Dear Team

As per our top SystemAdmin, he is taking care of Database backup, but he told me take back of other files, what me taking care as below, please let me know what are the files I should copy other than these (below), or let me know if me doing copy unnecessary files (you know unnecessary files copying in my external hard disk taking space and time) so your valuable advice will save my time and me will be in tension free in case total Nagios failure.

/etc/hosts
/etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg
/usr/local/nagios/etc/hosts
/usr/local/nagios/etc/services
/usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata <= its taking time, plz let me know exact files I will copy not full directory
/usr/local/nagvis <= don't know which files I have to take backup (its big folder), images, icons , graphs

What is the Nagios XI version that you are currently using? There is a "Scheduled Backup" component in Nagios XI 2014R1.x that you could use.
You can open the"/usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts/backup_xi.sh" script and see what is being backed up.

It would help if we knew what the goal of the backup is. Are you looking to only save the object configs? Or do you need a full backup including the Nagios XI PHP files?

The script lmiltchev posted will perform a full backup.

I would also strongly recommend updating to the latest version of XI as there have been numerous bugfixes and improvements since 2012R1.8.

You could just schedule the "/usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts/backup_xi.sh" script to run on a cron. By default, the backups are placed in "/store/backups/nagiosxi/" directory. You could then move the *.tar.gz" files wherever you like. I would recommend upgrading to the latest Nagios XI version though. There are many improvements and bug fixes - you can view the change log here:

Thanks TMCDONALD & lmiltchev ,, I will check with my SysAdmin and you pointed good think PHP files backup, yes we have developed many PHP script to fetch many OID result in Nagios as a alert.

Our Admin aware about new release and sure we will go but you know its involve some commercial.
