So why does the server show up as localhost?

This is more a theory behind it question, why does the Nagios server show up in the list of hostnames as "localhost" and not by its proper name? Do people just add an entry for the host separately so that these is both a localhost and the actual name of the host entry?

Earlier I asked about changing this listing to the actual name of the host, and while the fix I was given worked it broke access to the Host Groups summary so I'm thinking about not doing it.

Just wondering, to me it seems if I look up during a busy day and see errors I'd rather see the hostname and know immediately which server it is rather than thinking, which server is the localhost? Am I just thinking about this in a backwards way which is very possible

localhost always refers to the local machine, so there should never be any confusion about which system it is: by default, Nagios sets up a localhost check that only ever refers to itself.
