Update nagios 3.3.1 to 4.0.8 and update debian

Hello

for my business i install nagios 3.3.1 with nagios sql on debian 4.0R3 without update

now team security demand update version

I would like 1 update debian 4.0 R3 to debian 7 and update nagios to 4.0.8

I would like procedure step bu step

First is better update core or debian many thanks for help

Well, there is no specific step-by-step... I would first suggest backing up your configurations in case something goes wrong, then update Debian, and then core afterwards. Alternatively (the way I would do it) I would set up another Debian server that is fully updated, and then fully install the version of core you wish to use. I would then bring the configurations over after I've made sure it is functioning properly to the best of my ability, and swap the IP over to what the old server's was.
