Will linux-nrpe-agent-el4.tar.gz run on RHEL 3?

Hello: Yes, we have a couple of older RHEL servers (customers not upgrading or moving their data/services quick enough, or the developers for the service are no longer around, but I digress) and have patched them as needed, but am wondering if installing "linux-nrpe-agent-el4.tar.gz" will work with no issues, or is there a supported Nagios XI Linux server client for RHEL 3 (Taroon update 8), and where is it located by wget?

Thank you.

Hmm, It may or may not, you can give it a shot but it will probably fail at the version check, which we can alter and see if it proceeds properly. I would suggest you try building NRPE from source, rather than using a tarball made for a specific version:

I may have found the latest that may work on RHEL 3 (64 bit) but it's not "XI"-based, obviously, but it "SHOULD" still work, yes?

Yep, it should work, the reason some installation guides specifically note XI is because they were directed towards XI users specifically. For example, you could take the "XI Linux Agent" guide and use it on a RHEL/Centos 5/6 system and it would work just fine regardless of if you used Core, or XI.
