Unable to submit commands, schedule new checks etc

Today I had an issue where I was unable to schedule immediate checks, acknowledge problems, submit OK results. After a reboot of the server, the problem was solved, but I was wondering what could have caused this and what I can do to solve this without a reboot of the server.
EDIT: Als saw a few times today services giving me this: CHECK_NRPE: Error receiving data from daemon.

Next time check permissions on the external commands file. What messes them up, I don't know. Has happened to me a couple times.

Will do Bandit. You mean this file => /usr/local/nagios/var/rw/nagios.cmd ,right?
