Default Email Notification Template

I would like to change the default email template to replace "Nagios XI" with the name of my company. I did grep the files under the /usr/local/nagiosxi directory and found the places to do this. Howver, when I applied the 1.6 update it over wrote all of my chages. Any way to fix this permanently?

To do this permanently you should define your own notification command based on the default one and make your changes using that.

OK, I understand what you are saying in theory, create my own "xi_service_notification_handler" and "xi_host_notification_handler" commands. But the commands reference a file called "handle_nagioscore_notification.php"

When I look at that file I see it uses other parts of Nagios XI and appers to be required to properly place notifications into the database? I tried creating simple notification commands like Nagios Core has and notifications stopped all together.

As I understand it notifications have to go through the Nagios XI logic to be properly parsed and allow the users to also make changes through the interface.

So, could you be a bit more verbose here? I am a little confused as to how to make this work.

I'm sorry, this solution is probably overkill for what you're trying to achieve and I shouldn't have suggested it right off the bat. If you're just looking to change the message text you can do so right in the Nagios XI web interface by navigating to Configure->My Account Settings->Notification Messages. The messages are customized on a per-user basis, so you'll have to change it as each user individually. As an admin you can easily "masquerade" as other users to accomplish this by clicking on the sunglass guy icon in the Admin->Manage Users menu.

Well, this means I need to do it manually for every customer. Also it does not really address all issues as test messages and other notifications still have the "Nagios XI" header in them. Branding is important to us as a customer. Any chance you guys are going to roll out a more brandable product? I would even pay a premium for the barnding capabilities.

For now it is actually easier to modify the text files by hand in/usr/local/nagiosxi for all places where I find "Nagios XI". Just sucks that I will have to do it for each upgrade. Not exactly a workable solution.

Can you show us the files that you're editing and the changes that have been made. We're not opposed to the branding, but knowing what changes you're looking for will help us implement them.

I would also suggest adding this as a feature request at tracker.nagios.com so it stays on our TODO list.

I also have the same issue, could add a feature for setting a global message template, at the moment we have to pre-prep every user account, with the right format and variables. V v annoying at times, especially at times when you are setting up 15 accounts.

Hmm, yes that sounds like a good idea. I'd suggest posting that idea on tracker.nagios.com.

For the time being, however, what I do when I'm creating large amounts of similar users is I create the base user, get it setup how I want it (notification structure, etc) and then just clone that user X amount of times using the clone button in Manage Users, that way I don't have to duplicate my work with setting the notification messages/user prefs over and over.
