Temp Sensor Opinions

Ok, community input time!

So I've used the Esensors EM01b extensively in the past. They work for what they are meant to do and work very well with the nagios plugin that already exists, but their networking sucks and can get flaky if too much broadcast. My boss's boss's boss(company owner for short, lol) just reached out and said he'd like my recommendation on temp sensors to use in one of our cages with 12 temp sensors to start. Would you use Esensor or would you maybe switch to Kentix(spoke to her at the conference) or is there something else you'd recommend?

Thanks!

Edit: Also found these that seem nicely priced - https://www.serverscheck.com/default.asp

Edit #2: I think I am going to recommend the serverscheck devices to my boss. The temp sensors are only $77 for wireless magnetic mount ones and everything seems relatively cheap.....unless someone tells me they suck!

These might be pricey, but I believe the APC NetBotz would be a good option.

Yeah, they are much more expensive than the ServersCheck option. I used them at the old job though, they do work. But the boss did ask specifically about cost, so I think I may stick with the ServersCheck ones. Thanks for the input though Troy, I had totally forgotten about the netbotz!

No worries.

I think the ServersCheck with the phone card in them would be awesome. Just to have one of those that could get a message out ... temperature is one of this CRITICAL++ alerts.

Hello,

We are using AKCP sensorProbe8 v2.0. Using it for 6 years now and always did it's job. monitoring temperature, humidity, diesel generator, fire alarms with it (ah yes and also a water trap)

Grtz

I am quite fond of the TMcD model Arduino-based sensors ;)

But really, while I can't make a personal recommendation I can say I might be testing some Kentix gear in the near future. It's all SNMP-based from what I understand, and the model I checked out at the conference was pretty cool.

Water trap monitoring, nice! You could also home-brew your own with an arduino, but I can understand where a enterprise environment may shy away from hand made solutions.

Edit: Must have posted that at the same time Tmcdonald, I'll keep it posted anyways haha.

Well, I can assure you we have one datacenter that actually needs reliable monitoring of water levels lol.. Airco broke down several times, flooding the subfloor with 1-3 cm's of water, can you imagine. with all the electricity there... Beside the airco breaking a few times, the datacenter is located in a cellar next to a river......
Well anyway it's almost empty now... Migrated all the stuff to higher levelled datacenters.... (I have no idea who got that fantastic idea to make a datacenter of that cellar....)
"Good riddance" :D

At this point in the thread, the moderator will step in and say "we have collected enough ideas for Temp sensors".
I would love to keep this thread alive for sometime, but it has marginally drifted away from Nagios XI support.

We'll go ahead and close this thread. You can PM me if you want this thread continued.
