Upgrade without renewing

Hi,

I am currently running Nagios XI 2009R1.4B and our subscription expired a month back. When i try to upgrade it says "WARNING: Certain features of Nagios XI will be disabled until you successfully activate your key.". I may not renew my subscription in near future.

Question: Will this upgrade (without renewing the subscription) not include the new features of NagiosXI 2011 or other regular features used for managing NagiosXI will be disabled? If yes, what features will be disabled?

I am happy with the current NagiosXI and just don't want to fall in trouble. Please advice.

Thanks in Advance.

Aijaz

Aijaz,

Unfortunately, I would recommend you not do the 2011 upgrade, you will be locked out of your Nagios XI console and would be forced to use the free license ( 7 node ).

Hi,

Thanks for the response... can i re-install my NagiosXI with my current Lic key in the event of server crash? or whether it is going to give me free - 7 node - locked system?

I take regular backup of my NagiosXI using the backup script.

Thanks,

Aijaz

Aijaz,

As long as you installed 2009 you should not have a problem. If you have already installed 2009 more than three times, it *might* tell you you've installed it too many times, however I did talk to our licensing department and they would not have an issue dealing with a special issue (like yours) should the issue arise.

To sum up, if you lose your Nagios XI install due to some failure, you will not have to pay for another Nagios XI license, you will be able to download and install the 2009 edition and restore it from your backups.
