Should be largely accurate. The places things will deviate is when you get to the package manager commands like yum. Otherwise the commands are shell commands so they should be applicable in Slackware as well.

Yes.
It was written before Nagios XI was released, however NRPE is still the go-to Linux agent and the intall remains the same.
You could also look into SNMP for monitoring. If you can install net-snmp on Slackware. Install it, set a community string in the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf, open up tcp ports 161 and 162 in the firewall, and then use the Linux SNMP wizard and you're done.

Can you describe in more details what do you mean by "internet channel loading" and what exactly you would like to monitor?
