Hi Guys,

I am new to Nagios Core. We have a central Nagios server, but the new requirement is that we will have to monitor a few servers at every customer site globally.

Wondering if Nagios DNX is the solution? I do not want to install Nagios DNX on all the 20 customer site boxes, if that is necessary!

I am not sure though, whether I can have one Nagios DNX installed at one customer site and that monitors all the connected 10-20 servers in that site and reports to the Nagios master server we have at a central data center (OR) I need Nagios DNX installed on all the 10-20 servers at the customer site?

Secondly, for this use case, is Nagios DNX a better solution or is there any other solution?

Passive checks would probably be the best as long as those remote systems can all reach the nagios server.
Is there a reason why you were considering DNX (it is very old at this point, kinda unmaintained)?

I did not know about passive checks. Does that require opening a lot of ports on the customer firewall?

Ports typically do not need to be opened for outbound connections. All the passive checks will be sent from the remote machine to Nagios, so no ports will need to be opened. Firewall rules are a different story, but as long as outbound traffic is not restricted you should have no problems.
