I configured the nsca to allow any host connection in the NagiosXI OVM. Is there any furtherher configuration required for nrpe?

What is it you're trying to do?

NRPE is a remote plugin executor for *NIX, and a language that NSClient++ speaks
NSClient++ is a remote plugin executor and monitoring agent for Windows systems
NSCA is the daemon that processes passive checks

3 very different tools, each with a different purpose.

with our existing configuration of nagios(3.3) nrpe is used along with NSClient ++ version 3.9. I get configuration fails for both linux and windows hosts trying to use the OVM NagiosXI. I tried one from each(Linux and Windows) I'm wondering if I shouldn't import the configurations for each(NSClient and NRPE from our existing cofnguration. I am also thinking it might be easier to import all the nagios confiugration

Both NRPE and NSClient++ have a concept of "allowed hosts" in their configuration files.

Did you make those adjustments? XI has a configuration import feature that you can try to use to bring your existing hosts and services in for testing.

Yes Id did understand the concept of allowed hosts. I am understanding that when you do not edit that line it will connect with any host (NSClient)

Yes I looked at the migration/imprt documentation and was hoping to save that arduous task for use when we decide to move many from 3.3 to the nagiosxi, but I guess I will go ahead and use it for a couple for testing. On the windows side, I did add the address of the nagiosxi server along with the address of the existing nagios/nsclient server to the ini. file. I just want to make sure a configuration does not fail because of nrpe and nsclient. Thanks for your responses.

We do not use a passord or other authentication for nsclient, however as nsclient communicates using nrpe and this is secure, and the new server is not part of the LDAP/domain, and I am only using users from the nagiosxi host, how will I pass npre securely through?

This would be configured in the NSC.ini (or nsclient.ini). See how to use check_nrpe with NSClient++ here:

When Using the configuration wizard and I have tried discovering first with auto discovery and also by choosing windows server and linux server, the configuration fails with the message configuration verification failed see your nagios administrator. Since I am the nagios admin, where do I begin trouble shooting. By the way autodiscovery does find the two servers I am trying to monitor, but fails configuration as mentioned.
