NM_CONTROLLED in ifcfg-ethX

Hello,

This might or might not concern Nagios, as this is a common Linux setting.

I was thinking about this, i have my servers configured with NM_CONTROLLED=yes. This means that the network interface is controlled by the NetworkManager daemon. I hear different sounds about this setting, should it be on or off and why?

Kind regards,

Farid

I personally don't like having it on since I prefer configuring the network settings by hand, but that is just me. Other people might love it.

Either way, we do need to close the thread since this is not a question related to Nagios. I'll leave it open for the rest of the day for further comment before closing it.

I investigated further on this, and i came to the conclusion that for servers it's better to turn NM_CONTROLLED to "no" since your most likely using static IP Adresses. It seems to cause some problems for people when they have it turned on. Problems such as network connections that keep disconnecting etc. I want to keep ahead of these problems so i'm going to turn it off. Thought it might be good to share this information here. topic can close imo.
