disable Operations Screen alerts for some hosts

Hi there, I am looking for a way to be able to control which hosts (or host groups) present their alerts tot he Operations Screen.

For example, by default, every critical alert pop's up on the Operations Screen.

When i am testing a check or adding a new device, if my initial configuration is not perfect, it triggers critical alerts on the Ops Screen which in turns triggers a human to start worrying that something is wrong.

It would be great if i could set up a host and some checks quietly for testing, without triggering alerts on the main Operations screen.

Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Thanks
matt

I've been looking for some time for a way to exclude certain hosts or hostgroups from the open service problems / operations screen, but I did not found a solution. We had several very noisy hosts, eg traffic sensors which are connected by gprs. They kept polluting the open service problems view. In the end I set up a separate Nagios server for these noisy hosts.

Edit: I seemed to have misread your question. Would setting the host in downtime not be a solution for you?

Is it too obvious of an answer to create a user whom can only view those specific hosts and use that user for your NOC/Operations Screen?

I didn't know that you could do that, let me try it and i'll post back the results

edit: in Users>Manage Users, i can only see a tick box option to `Can see all hosts and services:`.

Ok i found that by adding a user to the contacts of each host, they are then visible to the user.

However, I have not discovered a way to add a contact to a host group yet, i dont want to go through every single host adding a contact, i have hundreds of hosts.

Where can i add a contact to a hostgroup i wonder?

You can't add a contact to a hostgroup, the constructs don't really interact.

You can add both a hostgroup and a contact to a template then apply that template to many hosts - however that would be a 1 by 1 process anyway.

Bulk modification tool is what you need, although it's an enterprise feature so if you don't have the enterprise license you'll be unable to use it.

Yeah i understand, i've added them all individually, one by one.

The good news is that this pretty much does what i wanted so i guess we can chalk this up as a success.

Thanks for your help and have a great weekend.
