Attached is a diagram of our proposed configuration. I am wondering if this will work; pros and cons? Also, we are thinking of
trying to offload the performance data. If that might help performance.

San storage is no problem, and good.
How do you plan on bringing the database up on the "Dr. Watson" server in the event of the Fusion server failure? I would not recommend trying to bring raw tables online from another engine - ever. In addition unless you have a cluster aware filesystem (and clustering properly configured) I would NOT present the disks on the Fusion server to Dr. Watson. In the time it takes your SAN admins to swing the LUNs, and for you to fsck them the Fusion server will likely be back online.
and - certainly nothing wrong with keeping another OFFLINE copy on the prod server.

Absolutely - did I'll leave the topic open for now in case future questions regarding the config are raised.
