If a warning/critical threshold exceeds, can we trigger events other than just email?

Example: in NagiosXI we have configured several Postgresql DBs.
If one of the DB's goes down we are getting the alert notification by mail.
During this event can we also trigger a call, for example to a script, so we can get the notification in system outside of NagiosXI?
