Nagios noob here LDAP login issues

Hello,
I'm very new to Nagios and looking forward to learning it.
I have recently walked into a Nagio shop with no experience using the Nagios product.
The environment is in a bit of disarray due to some issues created by the previous admin. I'm trying to get my user added to the Nagios web application to be able to login. I hijacked an older user and changed his password via LDAP and can get in, but that is not a good long term solution. I'm concerned that we have larger issue on our hands. I added my account to the Nagios group in LDAP, there is a contact file for my username and I have been added to contact groups. I'm not sure at this point what I missed or why it is not working for my login.
Thanks.

Have you restarted the Apache web process on the Nagios server? That is needed to be done so the system will recognize the new user account.
You will also have to edit this file and add your username to the authorized section.

User is added to that file.
I just restarted the apache and it is still not working.
Is there a check list of places to add the user to?
My authentication is coming from LDAP and is in line with other users in terms of membership groups and stuff.
Really shaking my head on this one.

Here is a link that shows how to setup LDAP in Nagios Core. You could use it to verify your settings.

One more thing you can do is restart nagios by doing the following and then try to login.
You could look for errors in the following files
Code: Select all
/var/log/https/error_log
/var/log/https/access_log
Can you post the error message you are receiving?

I have restarted the box just to be sure and still nothing.
I will look over that link again to be sure that everything is setup correctly. The install here is a little different not everything is in the default paths. I tried searching for the files you referenced but I cannot find them.
Other LDAP users are working properly so I hope that means that LDAP connectivity is correct.
I took an older user and changed the password in LDAP and the new password was accepted in Nagios. I'm wondering if I have a problem in LDAP and not in Nagios.
thanks

I found it.
Thank you for the assistance. I had the user in the wrong group in LDAP. I reviewed the document at the link you gave me for the 4th time and finally found the entry I needed to see.
Thank you very much for your help.
I will likely be back for more help as I get to know this product.
Do you suggest anything to read to better get to know this product?
Matt.
