Contacts/Users Notifications Again

I currently have 150+ users and that number will grow. If I understand everything correctly the users allow the specified user the ability to login to Nagios XI and view systems/services they have a direct connection with. The contacts are the "notification" contacts for specific hosts/services that they are assigned. Is that correct?

My question is I am creating users and making them contacts so for their specific hosts and services they will get the notification. However, I am trying to figure out how to setup a default behavior that the contacts always get an email message for down and recoverys for their hosts/services. If the contact wants to enter their cell number and receive SMS alerts during off hours or setup the notification preferences under their profile is there anything special I need to do? Or would they just enter that under their Notification Preferences once they login?

Example: I have service with a specific Contactgroup set to receive the alert for critical and recovery and the notification period is set to xi_timeperiod_24x7. Within that group is a user, UserA, which has alert settings for Host Notification Timeperiod as UserA_notification_times and Service Notification Timeperiod as UserA_notification_times. All options are checked except unknown. I guess two questions I have are A.) Can this user modify his notification options and service options to just receive the down, recovery and critical, recovery? B:) If the above is set and the user goes to their Notification Preferences and enabled notifications with email notification types as all unchecked and Mobile Text (SMS) checked for Host Recovery, Host Down, Service Recovery, and Service critical with the time periods Monday - Friday from 18:00-06:00 and Sat-Sunday from 00:00 - 24:00. Would they still receive the email notification during the normal business hours? Say a host went down at 09:00 and they were in the contactgroup assigned to that host would that contact get the email? Then if that host went down at 20:00 would they receive the SMS message and email?

Probably confusing but I want to make sure I have this setup correctly so regardless email messages are sent out when the host/service is down or critical based on the options I setup while also allowing flexibility for the contact to setup their own SMS notifications for off-hour use if they want to. Make sense?

The xi users, who are also contacts can modify their notification options, while "contacts only" cannot. Users can set up notifications to be received via regular email or SMS, or both. However, they won't receive any notifications if the notification timeperiod is out of the valid notificaiton time range.

There are several filters that potential notifications must pass before they are deemed worthy enough to be sent out (program-wide filters, service & host filters, contact filters, etc.). I would recommend reviewing our documentation on the topic here:
