2x Questions: Sharing DshBrds/Alrts & Variables in email

We've only recently purchased NLS, with no plans to purchase Nagios Core or XI in the near future. I'm only testing the front-end of NLS and hoping to save our admin a little time by finding out the answers to these questions:

1.) Our admin created a personal account for me to test with, though, we'll be moving into production with a group account - one accessible by myself and several colleagues. I've created a couple dozen dashboards under my personal account (for reasons slightly related to question #2 below), and I was wondering if both the dashboards and alerts are transferable/shareable between accounts? Or, would I have to re-create them under the group account?

2.) Is there a way to "variable-ize" fields in the subject-line or body of email alerts? We run every process in fault redundant/failover pairs. For every one process, there's a twin on another server. All must be running simultaneously and each process' log file must be monitored by NLS.

--Ideally, we'd like as few as one dashboard searching for several or all criteria in all monitored log files and the ability to send an email alert with the specific offending program and specific logsource in the subject line and body. It would also be nice to be able to include the log message in the body of the email.

--Up until this point, I've been creating one dashboard per process, per server - to be able to receive unique email alerts identifying the specific process and where it's running.

Thanks in advance

What you can do is make dashboards 'global' - this means that they will be accessible by all of your users. To make a dashboard global, you can use the 'save as global' option:

As for question 2 - at the moment, what you're looking to do is not possible. We are interested in expanding on the alert system in the future - implementing macros and variables - but for now a custom query must be designed for each log offense in question. We are also interested in allowing customization of the alert email - however currently it is not possible to do so.

I would like to make you aware (if you aren't already) of the 'Cluster Hostname' setting in Nagios Log Server. Setting the cluster hostname will alter the URL sent in our alerting emails. This alteration allows you to follow the URL directly to the alert query in question.

Thanks for the quick reply. NLS serves our needs nicely (and is surprisingly quick) and we look forward to its continued development.

Thanks again.
