nagiosgraph

Hi there,
I am a new user of Nagios and I am currently trying to implement it to monitor a university network. So far a few devices are currently being monitored, though would like to move on with "nagiosgraph" to have a better visualization of the data. I am currently using Nagios v3.2.1, and nagiosgraph v1.4.2. I have tried to follow the INSTALL file that is supplied with nagiosgraph as carefully as possible but I am still not able to get any performance data in my "perfdata.log" file so my /rrd directory is also empty.
I tried to isolate the problem, so I am trying to set nagiosgraph up just for the "localhost" and for the service "ping" using the plugin "check_ping".
What would be the first thing to check??
