perhaps this is already an option, if not, it sure would be handy.
Contact name: John Doe
John Doe is assigned as a contact for many hosts and services.
John Doe gets run over by a flock of rabid hummingbirds.
And now its time to remove his contact from Nagios, yet I cant because his name is all over the place.
is it possible to select a host (along with its services) and replace the contact(s) for it instead of having to go and manually edit each and every item?

My recommendation would be to use contact groups as they make this easy breezy, that way when they leave/expire you remove the contact from the contact group and add the new person in, apply config, and you're all set.
You can also use the bulk modifications tool to remove a contact from all hosts and services: Configure > Core Config Manager > Tools > Bulk Modifications. That would show you a list of where the user was added, then you could add the new user with the bulk modifications tool and add them to the same hosts and services, that's as close as I can get you.
Will that work for you?

The groups would work I suppose but I would need to make a group for each host.
The reason for that is beacuse as job duties change, so does the contact person(s)
Contact groups would be better I suppose..... but selecting a host and changeing all contacts for that host and services would be nice as well.

We'll I've created a feature request for you because I still think it'd be great feature to have:
Code: Select all
NEW TASK ID 6465 created - Nagios XI Feature Request: Add ability to replace a contact (or add a contact to the same places) everywhere in CCM (bulk mods)
