Network Status Map or better?

I would love to have a map(s) of our facilities with each monitored node located on the map at the correct physical location. When there's an alert I would then be able to see where the problem is physically and then have a brief description (or can click for more info).
Has anyone successfully accomplished this or something similar? Is it possible to customize the Network status map?

Nagvis is very popular and probably what you want to use. It supports an automap built based on parent child relationships as well as custom maps, including the ability to overlay the status icons onto a photograph/image and other cool stuff. You can see some samples of the possibilities on the Nagvis site, and for documentation on how to install it with your XI system take a look in the Library at
http://library.nagios.com/library/produ ... -nagios-xi . There's been some talk about trying to tie Nagvis into Google Maps or similar someday to more automatically build the kind of map overlay you want, but for the time being you'll have to use a static image.

Thanks for the replies! This should work great - should be perfect if I can just place alerts on an image!!

Unable to log in per instructions in the PDF linked above. Is there a way I can find out which user account it's asking for as my nagiosadmin login does not work.
"Accessing NagVis
To access your new NagVis installation, open the following URL in your web browser (replace <yourserver> with your Nagios XI
server's address).
http://<yourserver>/nagios/nagvis
NagVis uses a different authentication mechanism than Nagios XO, so you'll need to re-authenticate in order access NagVis. When
prompted, use the same username and password you use to login to Nagios XI."

Note the part where it says the 1.2 development snapshot of XI is required - there are some changes to authentication backends.

Requirements
You must be running Nagios XI 2009R1.2 or later in order to use this documentation.
Since it doesn't mention "development" I mistaked thinking it was for my version which is 1.1h. Well that explains it! Is there any way to get it working for 1.1h? Or would a manual install work?

No, this requires new functionality... Hence the minor version bump.

I did ask about the versioning schema. It's because our ideal user wouldn't know what a patch-set is, so we use letters instead of numbers to be more like Microsoft and Apple.
