Dear Forum,

We are going to install Nagios XI on RHEL. I need to know the dependencies and prerequisites like the ones below

1. I see Nagios gets installed under /usr/local
a) Can this default path be changed?
b) What is the minimum space requirement for /usr/local to install Nagios?
c) How about the space requirement for MySQL/Postgres DBs? Where do they gets installed by default
2. I learnt, we can't continue with Nagios installation on RHEL unless it is registered to redHat. When we ran "subscription-manager list" command it show "Status: unknown", however when we ran "yum update" it did not through any error. Is it okay to continue with the installation or do we need to check anything?
3. We have a DIT (Test env), SIT (Pre-prod) & PROD environment, can the same license key under a single standard license be used for these 3 environments?
4. Is there any Java dependency for Nagios installation?

a) Changing the default path is not supported.

b) The default install looks to take up about 600MB but it really depends entirely on your environment and the amount of performance data that will be stored and the number of checks, logs, etc. At the bare minimum I would recommend 40GB but you'll have to monitor it.

c) The default for MySQL and Postgresql only takes up about 100MB, again, this entirely depends on your setup but I've seen the MySQL database grow up to 30GB so go at least 40GB.
2. You need to be subscribed to the RHEL optional repository so make sure you have that enabled, what is the output of this command?

To add to my previous reply, we actually tried running the fullinstall script and we got this below error

ERROR: Please add the 'Optional' channel to your Red Hat systems subscriptions.
You can do so in the Redhat Network web interface or using the rhn-channel command.
or, install the yum-utils package and use the following command:
yum-config-manager --enable rhel-6-server-optional-rpms

Ran the below commands too
# yum install yum-utils
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or RHN Satellite.
Setting up Install Process
Package yum-utils-1.1.30-30.el6.noarch already installed and latest version
Nothing to do

# yum-config-manager --enable rhel-6-server-optional-rpms
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or RHN Satellite.

Research on this error says,

"Red Hat Network Classic:

You need to add the Optional software channel so that Nagios XI can install the necessary prerequisites. To do so, first sign in to your Red Hat Network account at http://rhn.redhat.com/. Then click on the link corresponding to your system. Near the bottom-left corner of the page, click Alter Channel Subscriptions. Check the box labeled RHEL Server Optional and click Change Subscriptions. That's it! You should be able to run the installer again and complete your installation."

Hope this should resolve the issue? Please confirm (We couldn't follow the above steps immediately as we didn't have the account details.)

My next question - Is internet connection mandatory for Nagios XI installation. Also, running "fullinstall" on Nagios XI would take care of these prerequisites that we could see for Nagios Core?

It's generally enough to make it go away.
