Recommended setup for UPS Monitoring

I have a standard install of Nagios Core 4.1.1. There is no pre setup config file for monitoring APC's. Is there a recommended place to put APC/UPS monitoring? Should it have it's own config file? Do most people setup a separate hostgroup with their own service definitions?
