I am planning on creating a HA pair cluster for my future 2 Nagios xi servers, the only problem is that the servers sit in a Centos VM on top of a redhat distribution server. Will this work? and is there any specific guide for that?

Before you do any HA setup, I would recommend you have a watch of Andy Brist's Nagios World Conference presentation regarding HA. He goes through a lot in this video.
