Backup and Recovery

Hey all,
we're in the process of upgrading to XI 5.2.3 from 2014R1.3.
While we're upgrading our test server, our 2014 is still being used.
After our test server is upgraded and we're happy with it can we restore the 2014 to the 5.2.3 one last time to catch any changes made during our upgrade process? Or would that create some kind of problem with trying to shove a 2014R1.3 database schema into a 5.2.3 setup.
If it would then we will just minimize and keep track of the changes we're making.

Does this mean that you're currently at 2014 on your test server, and intend to update it to XI5?

The database wouldn't be the problem. The backup is a full backup, so that includes binaries as well. You want to make sure you're backing and restoring to and from the same versions that you are currently on.

Our test server was on 2014 then we upgraded it to 5.2.3.
Once we are happy with that, we will upgrade our production server to 5.2.3.
Prior to upgrading our production server, would it be a problem to create a backup from the 2014R1.3 data and restore it to our just upgraded test server 5.2.3.
I think it could cause a problem since it's a full backup, but I just had to ask the question.

In theory it should work if you restore it, and then run the XI 5.2.3 upgrade script once more to replace the old binaries. Give that a shot and let me know if you run into issues.

Yeah,
that makes sense. I guess our other option would be to just run the upgrade on our production server and any changes we made would still be there. Then we could just backup the production server to test and update test that way, 5.2.3 --> 5.2.3.
But at least we have options.
