HI,
Could you point me to the importance of service groups in Nagios core or XI.
I create a bunch of general windows services, create a host group and assign the services to the host group. IS there a way i can create a service group and assign them to a Host group ?
If not, what is the core purpose of Service groups. what do i tend to acheive after grouping the services together ? ( Where do I apply them to ?) ( the object tricks doc has notes about only service escalations) thank you
Service groups are they any useful ?
Re: Service groups are they any useful ?
If you are running a single instance of XI, then service groups are most applicable to reporting purposes since one cannot add hosts or hostgroups to servicegroups. If this scenario applies to you, then you are already on the right track by applying services to host groups. Reporting is where you'll notice the benefits of configuring service groups, which may not even be necessary for you as that all depends on what you need to report on.
If you have multiple instances of XI running where mod_gearman is involved, then service groups can play a significant role in management and when new nodes are introduced. This is a topic unto itself, so let us know if this scenario applies.
