I broke my Log Server Web UI (or something anyway)

Good morning,

I am very green with *Nix and Nagios but after researching for a while, Nagios LS seems to be the solution I want to try for log consolidation and SNMP monitoring (?). Patience and detail are appreciated :) I am at a loss of terminology to search and understanding of the results.

I brought up a VM from nagioslogserver-1.4.0-64.ova, configured Network settings and pointed several of our security cameras and a couple windows servers (NSlog) to the LS server and all was well. I then wanted to get SNMP monitoring setup so I started to follow this tutorial http://anarosnetwork.blogspot.com/2010/ ... agios.html starting at Download SNMPTT assuming Nagios and Appache are already running. I got to step 4 and noticed that the Log Server Web UI was no longer available. I could start over from scratch but an event I have been wanting to capture happened during this time so I am hoping to correct this install to see if it was captured.

I am happy to answer any questions (if I am capable)

Thank you,
Todd

Log server is not what you're going to want to use for SNMP monitoring. You'll want to use one of our other solutions for this. Likely Nagios XI would be the best if you're green to *NIX.

The instructions you followed installed Nagios Core on your Nagios Log Server installation, and that's going to have problems. I would go back to a snapshot if it's possible.

Thank you for the response hsmith,

I downloaded the XI ova so I will give that a shot for SNMP. I can go back to a snap shot or start over but if there is a chance I captured the logs from this event I would like to salvage the LS. This only happens a maybe a couple times per month and I would rather not wait for it to happen again for another chance.

I did not install Nagios core or apache, I was just following the parts of the walkthrough for Net-SNMP and SNMPTT for what it is worth.

I am slowly digging into the problem, it seems that the NLS VM does not recognize the network so I am trying to resolve this.

Thanks again,
Todd

Let me know what you dig up. I was concerned about the guide telling you to install 'nagios' from the repository.

Thanks again - it ended up that I just had to restart the network interface, an ifconfig showed me an IPV6 address but not an IPV4 address. I love being at the bottom of the learning curve!

Yeah but think where you'll be on that curve a year from now! Thanks for the update - we'll lock this thread now and feel free to open another should you require assistance with anything else.
