NRPE without xinetd

The linux-nrpe-agent installer that installs NRPE on Linux machines appears to be only installing it to run with xintetd. Is there another installer we can use to install it as a daemon and not install xinetd, at all?

The instructions on the GitHub should work:

https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nr ... ter/README

Just skip the part about configuring it to use xinetd.

So, there's no pre packaged version of nrpe that doesn't install xinetd?

No there's not unfortunately, only the one that tmcdonald mentioned.

Thank you for the clarification. Perhaps, it might be a good idea to add a feature where the installer gives you an option to install nrpe without xinetd.

I posted an internal feature request for adding this option to our Linux agent installer script (TASK ID 8244). Thank you!
