We are about to upgrade to X5.

My current environment runs Centos 6.5,and checks on 2200+ hosts and 9000+ services and has an offloaded the MySQL db to a remote machine.
I also have a Secondary Nagios box which is configured without an offloaded db.

My questions:
When II upgrade to X5, with there be any issues with the fact that I have an offloaded mysqlDB?
Are there any benefits to using MariaDB over mysql, that is, performance, stability, or db management ?
givin my current environment, which would be the better choice, MariaDB or MySql?
And finally, would it be a good idea to upgrade from centos6.5 to Centos7?
Thanks Guys!

What is your current version of Nagios XI are you currently running?

I haven't heard anything about the differences between MYSQL and MariaDB.
Mariadb is newer and the default database on Centos7 but the decision is yours to make, same as upgrading from Centos6 to Centos7 for the OS.

Benhank,

Seeing that CentOS 6 will be out-of-support 30/11/2020, and only receive full updates till Q2 2017

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CentOS

I would advise you to choose CentOS 7, as it will make sure you won't have to upgrade again in a few years..
Apart from this choice, I am using MariaDB on my test server and it seems to run fine, but i only has 7 hosts and is not offloaded.

Grtz
