What are you using for SMS Alerts?

What do you guys use for SMS alerting.

I have 2 nagios servers is different geo locations and utilize a couple of crappy old Nokia 6021 phones using Gammu, with an unlimited message plan from the network provider (EE in the UK) - this has worked 99.9% perfect for 3+ years (phones needed the odd reboot but thats about it)

However something has happened in Ubuntu 12.04 which is resulting in both my setups playing up and both phones constantly going walkies and Gammu not detecting them. Reboot the phone / or restart gammu service and you can run a gammu --identify once and it will pull all info back, but after than just got No responce, phone probably not connected error.

On 1 phone id put it down to a bad phone, usb cable - but both phones, play up at the same time....coincidence....not for me!

So I thought id get a geenral overview on what other solutions are out there in the wild that other Nagios users use.

Cheers

Is there anything preventing you from using email to SMS gateways and configuring the alerts as emails (as far as Core is concerned)? The only possible pitfall is network loss on the destination phone.

I haven't implemented an API/Library for Core specifically, but I've used Twilio for a few other applications I've developed with great success:

Thanks guys.

@rkennedy - no further questions, just polling for other options that are known good and work

@nozlaf - its bad enough being woken up a silly o clock with my phone beeping at me, let alone somebody shouting at me to tell me i have a false positive on 1 of my servers going down at 4am :)

matter of judgement, you send not so important stuff to slack, really important stuff to voice, plus with voice you dont need to open your eyes, just listen, and if its garbage press a key to acknowledge and go back to sleep

also with slack you could have a few channels one that has notifications turned on another that doesn't so you can balance your stuff out

Reducing alerts, either mail/pager/sms/slack/..., is really tough and really a form of art
