Hi,

Does Nagios depend on any service from Samba to operate? I think it was initally setup before for a share created by a former admin to install the agent. I know this is probably a dumb question to others and I'm pretty it doesn't depend on the service but I just want to be sure before turning it off since it is production. We are currently using 2011 R1.2.

No, Nagios itself does not normally depend on Samba. I could imagine some scenarios where it would, but if you're not aware of any unique Nagios configuration on your network with regards to Samba then it's probably fine to turn it off.
