Nagios Support Forum

Hey there everybody,

I'm totally new to Nagios Core and monitoring tools in general. However, I'm a student in business informatics and have to write a paper on monitoring tools.
I really searched every source I could find, but didn't found any clear information if there is any possibility to host Nagios Core Monitoring on Windows Server 2012 or Windows 7? What I found where some installers like a 32bit NagiosCore installer from Nagios Exchange, but I'm running 64bit and something called "Nagwin", what didn't worked as well.
I know, this is a very beginner question, but I really need this information.

Nagios Core is designed primarily for Linux systems. Officially, we test on CentOS 6/7 and RedHat 6/7. I've had Nagios Core running on Ubuntu 14 and Debian 7 systems as well, but the process was a lot more finicky and isn't something we test on very much internally. Nagwin is a third-party endeavor to port the system to a Windows environment and this is a less than ideal place to get support for that application

As you are working in a Windows environment, I would recommend getting a CentOS 6 or 7 VM up and running in something like VirtualBox. You'll have a much better time getting Nagios running on a Linux machine than a Windows machine
