We are interested in a free dashboard for Nagios core, something that would successfully be used by non tech savvy customers and by management, please advise.

Could you be more specific on what you are looking for in a dashboard? Nagios Core has a built in web front-end.

Graphs and a graphical representation over time

Have you already looked through the selection at https://www.nagios.org/downloads/nagios-core-frontends/ or are you looking at us to narrow it down further for you?

I know you specified "free" as a criteria, but it's honestly worth looking into Nagios XI if you are having non-technical people use it, especially if they need to make configuration changes:

We can't officially provide support for third-party UIs, but we definitely can provide support for Nagios XI.

As stated above, Core comes with a webinterface that already does quite e few things. You can add on nagiosgraph.
