Nagios XI - Adding contactgroups to hostgroups

Hi,

Is there an easy way in Nagios XI to assign different contactgroups to existing hostgroups?

I know that one can use host templates and then assign contactgroups to that template, but like that one has to create a template for every hostgroup and it is kind of confusing.

Thanks

One cannot add contact groups to hostgroups and this is by design. However, you can use host templates as you've mentioned - add the contacts/contactgroups and hostgroups you want to the template, and then apply the template to the hosts.

Thanks for the reply.

It might be a very useful feature to have as it is common to assign contacts/contactgroups to particular group of hosts like we are able to do with services.

Once can also use the bulk modification, but this overwrites the current configuration and so it is not the ideal solution.

Thanks

Just to add my input currently, I would look at using templates for this, as this will let you manage things on a very large scale. (and also help automate things to make your life easier) But, it sounds like you're already aware of this.

As it's a function that doesn't exist, and it'll need to apply at the Core level - could you file an issue on our GitHub page? https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nagioscore/issues
