Is it possible to edit the recovery email template?

You can use the Admin -> Notification Management to change the template for xi_host_notification_handler - but this does not allow the granularity based on different notification types. I filed a FR for this, #10482.
As a way around it (if this is more of a one off), is create a new contact, then replicate the core notification commands (notify_host_by_email / notify_service_by_email) to be adjusted for your template. Then, assign this to the contact, and define that you only want recovery emails. This does bypass the manage email settings page though, so you'd want to configure it accordingly.
