Hi all,

I'd like to ask if it possible in Nagios to have service descriptions be dynamically updated based on some information retrieved using SNMP, as for example based on the interface description of the monitored switch port, so as each time we modify interface description service description is automatically updated.

Currently, this isn't going to be possible. One thing to keep in mind, is that every time you make a change to the service description you will need to run an 'Apply Configuration'. You might be able to use custom objects, in conjunction with the API's current features to develop a process for this. (see Help -> Developer Docs)

I filed a feature request though that I think would be pretty handy, which will allow you to update ONLY a custom variable for an object as this would be very dynamically handy. The ID is #10541.
