Fusion bandwidth usage

Hello,
we are using Fusion in Europe and Nagios XI in Africa.
There are high latency and low bandwidth lines to Africa. We are facing big troubles that WAN line used by Fusion to get results from Nagios are utilized by Fusion and users are complaining.
Does exist any optimization how to improve amount of transferred data (compression, using mod_gzip in apache)?
