What OS are you running, and what instructions did you follow for the upgrade? Any additional information will help as well.

OS Centos 6 Linux nagios 2.6.32-573.18.1.el6.x86_64
Upgrade
./configure --with-command-group=nagios
make all
make install

This is a known bug in Core when it comes to searching for IP addresses currently. See the issue here -
