I was playing around with my test box and I setup a host that used the generic-host template. The host never actually did the check, constantly on Pending. Every time I clicked "Schedule an immediate check" nothing ever happened.
When I went and looked at the generic-host template I realised that there was no check command defined. When I changed to the xiwizard_generic_host template all worked as expected.
Not sure if this is by design, thought I might log it here in case someone else had the same problem as me.

Yeah the generic-host template is mostly there for backwards compatibility for people migrating from Core installs. Essentially every wizard in XI uses the xiwizard_generic_host template as it's base template.
