Inherited Nagios Ver. 1.2 - Should I upgrade to 3.3

Just go a small task thrown at me.
Mandrake 10 Linux install with Nagois Core 1.2, as advertised in the http home page. The monitoring page suggests that there is an 80% disconnect (configuration error) from monitored appliances, servers and printers.
My question is,
1) Should I go through the learning curve for 1.2 and repair this mess?
2) Should I upgrade to 3.3 then start fresh
Considerations, I am getting nothing for this but experience; however client will be a hard sell even though it's free. Monitoring about 10 W2k3ee servers, about another 20 objects, thus we are monitoring approximately 40 to 50 items. Start over or upgrade?
Thanks
Vic
