XI VMware appliance or Linux install?

What are some pros and cons for a CentOS install of XI vs using a standard VM?
Obviously a Nagios VM is up and running immediately, but installing on CentOS would give me a GUI text editor for modifying scripts etc along with other potentially useful tools. What do you guys think are important factors for either option?

if you don't want to VI, use nano. you'll like it. as for this being supported, Nagios recommends you don't install with a linux OS with a GUI.
either one works though, really up to your preference. i believe the ova is running cent6, so you may want to start with cent7 pending your requirements.

As tacolover pointed out, itt realy depends on your requirements. If you're happy with CentOS 6, the pre-built VM is by far the easiest method to get you up an running. And we don't recommend installing a gui or extra programs/utilities on your Nagios server.
Thank you!

No problem, I'll stick with the standard VM. I discovered that Notepad++ with the NppFTP plugin will edit files on a Nagios VM without a problem, and WinSCP and Putty should do everything else I need.
Thanks for the advice.
