We are trying to upgrade the Nagios XI version (to the latest one) that we are using for our infra monitoring,
Currently we are using:
NagiosXI Version: 5.2.9

We had a doubt, about the pre requisites for the latest version upgradation like:
• How data will be backed up?
• What are the risks and the resolution for that?
• Only GUI upgradation will work?
• Will it any how affect the Nagios database?

If any document is available please provide us the link also.

The upgrade may fail for one reason or another. If you need assistance, you can create a thread here and share your upgrade.log. You can also restore from the backup previously created by following this documentation:

Leveraging something like Flyway to properly version the databases would be neat, but I don't think the ends justify the means. The changelog is probably as good as it gets unless you have specific questions about specific tables.

If you've made custom modifications to the database, the upgrade process may undo those changes.
