Please Clarify - who wins here

In Admin => Performance Settings => Databases tab
there are Max time settings.
In /usr/local/nagios/etc/ndo2db.cfg
there are Table Trimming Options
Some of these conflict with each other. So who wins? Please advise and clarify.
