Unknown errors from some virtual machines

About a month ago I downloaded Nagios XI VMware appliance for evaluation purposes before we buy. The package has been installed is "as is" without any modifications not required by the installation manual. We are still using evaluation enterprise license with it. We are having problems with a lot of false notifications from several virtual machines managed by VMware vcenter server. Since we installed Nagios, it shuts out critical email notifications for networking, CPU usage, and memory for the same six virtual servers hosted on different hosts. We also have several other virtual servers for which Nagios at least once a day sends the same critical notifications about networking, memory, and CPU usage. Each email notification includes ESX3 CRITICAL - HOST-VM Unknown error for each monitored service. When I look on Nagios and VMware performance graphs there is nothing out of ordinary there - in fact, usage is relatively low on each server. Most virtual machines are being monitored just fine, no false positives - false positives always come from the same virtual machines.

Can you PM or post the addresses of the six servers in question?
Also, can you PM me your Profile? You can download it by going to Admin > System Config > System Profile and click the ***Download Profile*** button towards the top. If for whatever reason you *cannot* download the profile, please put the output of View System Info (5.3.4+, Show Profile if older) in the thread (that will at least get us some info). This will give us access to many of the logs we would otherwise ask for individually. If security is a concern, you can unzip the profile take out what you like, and then zip it up again. We may end up needing something you remove, but we can ask for that specifically.
You can also generate a profile manually using the script at /usr/local/nagiosxi/html/includes/components/profile/getprofile.sh
That should generate a profile in /usr/local/nagiosxi/var/components/ which you can get off the server with an application such as FileZilla.
After you PM the profile, please update this thread. Updating this thread is the only way for it to show back up on our dashboard.

Just to follow up on my question - turns out that in fact there were a very brief network outages which triggered nagios alerts. Nagios worked as it supposed to. Thanks.

Sounds great! I'll be closing this topic as resolved!
If you have any more questions, feel free to create another thread!
Thank you for using the Nagios Support Forums!

Sorry to hear about the outage, but glad to hear Nagios worked as it was supposed to
