I have a ping test going I am wondering if there is an easy way to just see when to see when the connection goes up and down. I see the performance graphs but I really don't care about that. I just want to see when it goes up or down.

Hello, @lance.peterson . Have you checked on a ping status detail page in service status summary? The status is OK if Nagios can ping the server, and it's critical if the remote server cannot be pinged. Is that what you're looking for? Not sure if I understood the question.

Correct the status says OK right now and it pings. My question is there a log somewhere where I can just see the critical alarms for this; ie when it down, I don't care about the response times, etc. Just want to see Up/Down logs graphs.

@lance.peterson, Well, if you're looking to gather up/down information in retrospective, one of the options is to generate a report. In Nagios XI web interface click on the Reports tab, select the host in the drop-down list, and then select "Ping" in another drop-down list that says services. Click on Run.
Otherwise, I recommend going over some basic components like operations center, operations screen, open service problems, etc. You can find them on a home page in the left column. These components won't show you the graphs but they'll show whether the check is critical=device is down. I think building a graph only based on whether something is up or down is not the most efficient way to present this kind of information anyway.
Finally, check out the view service/host history tab. It will give you a list of Critical episodes from the history.
