Feedback on Nagios XI tool

Hi Everyone,

I am currently looking at monitoring tools out there and have some questions around Nagios I am hoping you can help me with.

• How well does the tool monitor newer infrastructure (i.e. Hybrid Cloud) and workloads, e.g.
o AWS/Azure infrastructure workloads and services (e.g. RDS, Kinesis, EMR)
o OpenShift PaaS infrastructure
o Container-based workloads, AWS, Azure native services such Kinesis, RDS, …? How would the new tool help us with this?
• What is gap between the Nagios Monitoring tool and ELK? Ideally, this should factor in what ELK can do today or be extended to do.
• How does the Nagios Monitoring tool integrate with other elements in the Logging & Instrumentation architecture, in particular, ServiceNow’s ITSM and ITOM capabilities?
• How well does it scale (to meet load and also provide redundancy)? I am particularly interested in this at an Enterprise level.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide with this.

I may be biased, but I think the XI tool is extremely neat :) One of it's greatest strengths is its extreme flexibility in what it can monitor(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGSlqxIMxQM) - if there isn't a plugin for what you're trying to do already, then one can be created(https://nagios-plugins.org/doc/guidelines.html).

Here is a quick list of links with plugins to some of the things you mentioned.

https://exchange.nagios.org/index.php?o ... chword=aws
https://exchange.nagios.org/index.php?o ... word=azure
https://exchange.nagios.org/index.php?o ... =OpenShift
https://exchange.nagios.org/index.php?o ... sticsearch
https://exchange.nagios.org/index.php?o ... servicenow

Most of the plugins in those links are made by the community and are available in addition to the plugins and wizards that come with the install(https://www.nagios.org/downloads/nagios-plugins/, https://youtu.be/-rRn74xxS50, https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/A ... on-Wizards).

High availability and scaling are possible and covered in the documents below and attached.

Hope this helps some. If you haven't already, you should download and give XI a try or take a look at the online demo machine. Links available on the front page of https://www.nagios.com/ .
