nagios - popen timeout received, but no child process

Hello everyone
i have nagios Version 4.3.4 and this message appears when i loose internet connection for all my local machines even for localhost : CRITICAL - popen timeout received, but no child process . All machines are on same network segment on same switch but if i stop or restart my router the message appears up until nagios has internet connection. Any ideas what could be wrong ? Also my dns server is on same network segment as nagios.
